Orthopedic Bodywork
If you’ve been struggling with PT sessions that don’t lead to changes, workouts that leave you feeling injured, and you’re frustrated that health professionals don’t seem to have solutions, Orthopedic massage may help. Orthopedic massage is intended to relieve pain and imbalance at the joint level, allowing your body to move more freely and efficiently. This work can help you increase your range of motion, as well as better neuro-muscular control, meaning that the nervous system is choosing the proper muscles for the required task. . I also employ NeuroKinetic Therapy, which helps to reeducate the nervous system and relieve unhealthy compensatory patterns. I urge my clients to couple this work with Pilates, as changing unhealthy and inefficient movement patterns is essential to breaking cycles of stress and pain in a body.
What is an orthopedic bodywork session like? These sessions are more active than traditional massage, with clients hopping off of the table or equipment to recheck muscle tests, perform Pilates exercises, or go through daily activities that tend to be problematic , all so that we can track progress and reenforce proper movement patterns. Bodywork sessions are conducted with clothes on. Clients are asked to wear items that will allow me to easily access the relevant muscles and joints. Shorts, loose t-shirts, and tank tops or sports bras work great. These are fun, active sessions that tend to go by quickly and feel great!
